Speeding up code review with 'small-change'

What I took from it

  • The problem: over two years, median pull request review time went from about 33 to 77 minutes, tracking the rise in merged PRs. More code, same reviewers.
  • The fix: a separate, lighter review path for small changes, so they don’t queue behind large ones.
  • My doubt: it isn’t free. Someone has to decide what counts as small, and a risky change filed as small skips the review it needed.
  • So what for me: I’d trial it on one change type with a clear rule before applying it everywhere, and measure where review time actually goes first.
